Police to investigate officers for assaulting masquerader, man in Enugu

Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Lawal Abubakar, has ordered the investigation of policemen who assaulted a young man and a masquerader at Agbani community in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The directive is contained in a statement made available to journalists in Enugu on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Daniel Ndukwe.
According to Mr Ndukwe, the CP directed the criminal investigation department (CID) to thoroughly investigate and ensure that the policemen faced disciplinary anction.
He said the commissioner condemned the act, describing the physical assault by law enforcement officers as unprofessional.
He said that the commissioner noted that the acts was against the fundamental human rights of residents in Enugu and that such act “shall not be condoned”.
“Citizens should also report the abuse of their discretional powers and the violation of fundamental human rights of any one,” the police boss was quoted as saying.
