Following suicide attempt on Monday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has vowed to charge Shuaibu Yushau, to court if found to be mentally stable.

In a post shared on her official X handle on Tuesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said the suspect was undergoing mental evaluation.

According to the command’s spokesperson, the result of the evaluation will determine if legal proceedings will be taken against Mr Yushau because his offence contravened Sections 231, 111 and 114 of the Penal Code Act.

Mrs Adeh wrote, “We have sent Shuaibu Yushau, the man who climbed a broadcast mast yesterday to the Social Development Secretariat for mental evaluation. If found mentally stable after the test, he will be charged to court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace and incitement.’’

Mrs Adeh had in a statement on Monday said the command responded to distress calls reporting that Mr Yushua climbed the mast belonging to ASO Radio in Katampe at about 09:10 a.m., leaving behind a suicide note at the foot of the mast.

The suspect, who was arrested after he yielded to several pleas against taking his own life, explained that he was protesting against the economic hardship being experienced under the President Bola Tinubu’s administration since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
