Police vow to crack down on scavengers in Ogun

The police command in Ogun has vowed to crack down on scavengers destroying private and public infrastructure and stealing property in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, stated this in a statement on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun.
Ms Odutola said the crackdown became necessary following a recent arrest of a scavenger involved in stealing at Itele-Awori.
She explained that the scavenger was apprehended while unlawfully removing some window glasses with aluminium frames from a building.
“The members of the community assisted in apprehending the suspect, who was then handed over to the police.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and is currently in police custody,” she said.
The command’s spokesperson said that the suspect would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
She said the command had intensified monitoring of scavengers, particularly those who engage in criminal activities under the guise of scrap dealing.
Ms Odutola implored residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
She reiterated the commitment of the police to ensuring the safety of lives and property while taking decisive action against criminals operating under any disguise.
