Policymakers, experts, others converge on Botswana for economic conference

Policymakers, experts and other stakeholders from across Africa have converged on Gaborone, Botswana, for the 2024 African Economic Conference.
The theme of the conference is: “Securing Africa’s Economic Future Amidst Rising Uncertainty.” and it will feature discussions from key stakeholders on the continent.
The AEC 2024 aims to address Africa’s pressing economic challenges and strategies for resilience amidst global uncertainties.
The discussions would focus on four critical areas including the impact of uncertainty on Africa’s development, and resilience through African-led solutions, innovative financing in uncertain times and leveraging technology for predictive strategies.
The event would also emphasise the role of innovation and youth-led solutions in strengthening resilience across sectors.
The meeting, expected to generate actionable recommendations to guide African nations towards economic stability and prosperity in an increasingly complex global landscape, will end on November 25.
The conference is being co-hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The major high points at the event would include a keynote address delivered at the opening by the Botswana President Duma Boko.
Other notable speakers would include Botswana’s Minister of International Relations; Dr Phenyo Butale, and the UNDP Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Africa, Ahunna Eziakonwa.
Others are AfDB Chief Economist and Vice President, Prof. Kevin Urama and the UNECA Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary, Claver Gatete, would also present their addresses.
Another key highlight will be a research competition recognising impactful contributions from leading scholars across the continent.
Participants could attend the conference either in person or virtually.
