The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Adamawa chapter, has insisted on its call for the replacement of INEC’s resident electoral commissioner ahead of the state’s supplementary governorship election.

Bello Babajo, the IPAC state chairman, said this at a news conference on Sunday in Yola.

The IPAC chair further called on the Adamawa people to conduct themselves peacefully during the governorship election rerun in the state on April 15.

“We, however, stand on our earlier call for the replacement of the resident electoral commissioner before the supplementary election,” Mr Babajo said.

IPAC also called on security agencies to take action against the state chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Party (CNPP), Jafaru Girei, for claiming to be chairman of different political parties.

 According to Mr Babajo, Mr Jafaru is also misleading the public by saying there are 32 political parties in the state instead of 18.

“The IPAC is calling on the security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, take drastic steps to stop Comrade Jafaru Girei and his team from misleading the public, which will lead to the breakdown of law and order as the peace and harmony in Adamawa state is not negotiable,” stated the IPAC leader.

He added, “To our greatest shock and surprise, on the 7th April 2023, one comrade Girei made a misleading statement that will bring chaos in Adamawa state, which might lead to the destruction of lives and property.” 

Mr Babajo stressed that “such a statement should not come from him as the secretary of PCRC, and therefore we call on Comrade Jafaru Girei to discontinue such misleading statements as a matter of urgency.”

Mr Babajo also urged the public to disregard groups not recognised in Adamawa and Nigeria, stating, “Again, the public should know that we have 18 political parties and not 32, as claimed by comrade Girei.”
