Pre-filled result sheets show APC leading; INEC launches investigation

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is investigating claims of pre-filled result sheets in the Kogi governorship election.
A pre-filled result sheet on social media showed the All Progressives Congress candidate leading.
YAIGA Africa shared a photo of a pre-filled result sheet on Saturday, calling INEC to address the issue.
Posting a photo of the result sheet with the 2023 Kogi governorship election header on X on Saturday morning, YAIGA said, “Dear @inecnigeria, we received report of pre-filled results sheet discovered in PU 004, Eni Ward of Ogori/magongo in Kogi state before the commencement of voting. Kindly investigate and address this issue promptly to safeguard the integrity of the process.”
In the result sheet shared by YAIGA, APC had 200 votes, while ADC, PDP, and SDP had two votes each while the election was ongoing across the state.
Another X user, @chosensomto, shared three result sheets, showing APC to have won the polling units.
The result sheets emerged online shortly after the PDP raised the alarm that the election was not held in some polling units in Ogori Magongo LGA due to missing result sheets.
“Our attention has been drawn to a report that filled result sheets were discovered in some polling units in Kogi state. The commission views this situation seriously,” INEC said in a statement on Saturday.
It added, “Our senior officials deployed to the state are currently investigating the incident(s). The commission will communicate its decision earnestly.”
Usman Ododo of APC, Murtala Ajaka of the SDP, Dino Melaye of PDP, and Leke Abejide of ADC are major contenders in the election.
