Arsenal regained their five-point lead ahead of Manchester City on the Premier League table after a hard-fought 2-1 win over 10-man Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

William Saliba opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 21st after the France international connected his head to a ball headed far post by Gabriel. But Chelsea equalised just before halftime when Piero Hincape headed home a corner kick by Reece James.

However, the Gunners restored their lead in the 66th minute through Jurrien Timber who headed home a well-placed corner-kick by Declan Rice.

Chelsea were reduced to 10 men six minutes later after Pedro Neto was sent off following a second yellow card for stopping Gabriel Martinelli’s counter-attack.

The Blues almost levelled the scoreline deep into added time when Alejandro Garnacho whipped a teasing cross into the box, which Joao Pedro failed to attack but was saved by David Raya’s last hand as the ball was creeping into the net.

The result meant that Arsenal extended their unbeaten run across competitions to nine matches, winning seven of them in the process as the Gunners restored their five points advantage over Man City in the title race.

Meanwhile, it was Chelsea’s first Premier League defeat under Liam Rosenior since he became the club’s manager earlier this year.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United finished a weekend in the top three of the league table for the first time since May 2023 after the Red Devils defeated Crystal Palace 2-1.

The win extended United’s unbeaten streak under interim head coach Michael Carrick to seven matches, with six wins and one draw.

It was Palace that first grabbed the lead courtesy of a header from Maxence Lacroix in the fifth minute as the Reds Devils struggled to gather momentum throughout the first half.

Unfortunately, Lacroix was sent off in the 56th minute when brought down Matheus Cunha inside the box, with United subsequently awarded a penalty kick, which Bruno Fernandes calmly slotted home.

Eight minutes later, Fernandes perfectly set up Benjamin Sesko, with the forward sending a powerful header past Dean Henderson to secure the three points to leap to third on the table.
