President Mohamed Bazoum has honoured four Nigerian northern governors with one of Niger Republic’s highest national awards, the Award of Excellence.

Governors awarded are Abubakar Bagudu, Abubakar Bello, Mai Mala Buni and Badaru Abubakar of Kebbi, Niger, Yobe and Jigawa states respectively.

The governors were said to have been presented with the awards in recognition of their contributions to the promotion of bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to a statement in Abuja on Monday by Mr Bagudu’s special adviser on media, Yahaya Sarki, the event was held during a colourful ceremony in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Mr Sarki said that Mr Bagudu was presented with the award by President Bazoum for his contribution to the socio-economic development of Nigeria and Niger Republic.

He said the award was presented to Mr Bagudu in recognition of his promotion of sustainable peaceful coexistence between the two countries.

Earlier, Mr Bazoum also decorated and presented an award to the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco, alongside others from his country for their individual roles in the development of Niger Republic.
