Pro-Iranian group claims attack on U.S. troops in Syria

The pro-Iranian group Islamic Resistance in Iraq on Tuesday claimed responsibility for an attack on U.S. troops in South-Eastern Syria.
The militia said it attacked the al-Tanf military base near the Jordanian and Iraqi borders with drones on Monday night.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had previously reported that the base was attacked by a drone which was shot down by U.S. troops.
The U.S. military did not initially comment.
The al-Tanf base had been attacked several times in the past.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq is a kind of umbrella group for pro-Iranian militias in Iraq.
It has been operating together under this name since the terrorist acts by the Palestinian Islamist Hamas on October 7 in Israel.
This includes Kataib Hezbollah, one of the strongest militias in Iraq, which is also calling for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.
Since the Gaza war began almost six months ago, pro-Iranian militias have repeatedly carried out attacks on U.S. military bases in the region.
On January 28, three U.S. soldiers were killed in one of the attacks in Jordan near the Syrian border.
The U.S. responded with extensive airstrikes on positions of pro-Iranian militias in Iraq and Syria.
There have been almost no attacks on U.S. bases in the region since the beginning of February.
