PRP national chairman says party open to coalition talks ahead of 2027 poll

The national chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, says the party is open to entering into a coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, provided such an arrangement does not compromise its ideology, principles and identity.
Mr Baba-Ahmed said coalition talks remained a possibility if they would help achieve good governance and strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
He said that the party’s overriding objective was to provide credible leadership for Nigerians rather than merely winning elections.
“It is quite possible that the only way to change the current political direction of the country may involve alliances. We are not against that,” he said.
The national chairman, however, emphasised that the party would not lose its identity or abandon its principles in pursuit of partnership with other political parties.
“We have principles, values, history, commitment and integrity. If we align with any party, it must be on the basis that these values are not compromised,” he said.
According to Mr Baba-Ahmed, the growing number of politicians now seeking to join PRP is a reflection of public confidence in its ideology and internal democratic culture.
He said that the party remained focused on offering Nigerians a credible alternative built on integrity, accountability and people-centred governance.
