PSG beat Villa to lift UEFA Super Cup for second time

UEFA Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain beat Europa League champions Aston Villa 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday to win their second consecutive UEFA Super Cup.
Luis Enrique’s men took an early lead through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who scored from a Desire Doué assist.
Villa threatened through chances from John McGinn, Brian Madjo, Emiliano Buendia, and Ian Maatsen.
Seventeen-year-old Madjo levelled the game in the 45th minute after several opportunities, finishing a clean delivery from McGinn. The centre forward also became the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history.
Doué secured the Parisians’ winner in the 62nd minute with a perfect strike after a superb pass from Ousmane Dembele.
The result marks PSG’s second consecutive UEFA Super Cup trophy after their Champions League victory against Premier League champions Arsenal on penalties in May.
For Unai Emery, it was a missed chance to clinch his first UEFA Super Cup, marking his fourth defeat in the European Cup final.
Somalia’s Omar Artan officiated the game after the referee was denied entry by Customs and Border Protection in the U.S. ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
