• February 2, 2022

Brazil continued their impressive run in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying series on Wednesday morning by thrashing Paraguay 4-0 to seal a place in the 2022 World Cup to be held in Qatar.

Leeds star Raphinha scored with a tidy finish, and new Aston Villa boy Phillipe Coutinho had the ball into the top corner from 25 yards to put the Selecao in a comfortable position. Antony and Rodrygo sealed the points in the final four minutes, the Real Madrid forward scoring his first-ever competitive goal for Brazil.

The defeat means Paraguay can no longer qualify for the World Cup.

Brazil also continues to improve their credentials ahead of the tournament. They top the qualifiers in South America, unbeaten in 15 matches and 61 consecutive World Cup qualifiers played at home.

Brazil played without PSG forward Neymar but had Ederson, Fabinho, Vinicius Jr and new Newcastle signing Bruno Guimaraes.
