Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna crashed out of the ongoing WTT Cup finals in Xinxiang, China, following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Taiwanese youngster Lin Yun-ju on Thursday morning.

Yun-ju, 21, defeated Aruna 11-4 in the first set. The Taiwanese also claimed the second set 11-6 before Africa’s number one managed to win the third set 11-8.

Yun-ju won the final round of the Men’s round of 16 tie 11-4 to scale through to the quarterfinals phase of the elite competition.

The defeat is Aruna’s second setback in one week after he was knocked out in the first round of the just concluded WTT Champions in Macao, China, by Sweden’s Anton Kallberg.

The WTT Cup finals started today and will end on October 30.

Sixteen elite players across the world are participating in the tournament, with $1 million prize money shared among the competitors.

The 34-year-old player is the only African that featured in the tournament.
