Raiders sack Arnette over death threats video

The Las Vegas Raiders released Damon Arnette after a video emerged of the second-year cornerback making death threats while holding a gun.
Arnette had been on injured reserve since October 9, before the Raiders cut ties with the 2020 first-round NFL draft pick on Monday.
The 25-year-old made 13 appearances for the Raiders, tallying three total passes defended and 29 tackles, 23 solos.
It came after the Raiders released Henry Ruggs III last week, who will be charged with driving under the influence resulting in the death of another person following his involvement in a fatal car crash.
“Today, we waived Damon Arnette; very painful decision. We spent significant time, effort, and resources trying to help him in all aspects of his life. There have been a series of bad decisions over the last year or so, but we can’t stand; we cannot stand for the video of Damon with a gun, threatening to take a life,” said Raiders’ general manager, Mike Mayock. “The content is unacceptable, contrary to our values, and our owner Mark Davis has been very clear and very consistent that this is not how we will conduct ourselves in this community. The bottom line, the Raiders will not tolerate this type of behaviour.”
He added, “On a personal note, I’ve talked to Damon, his dad, a couple of others in his life. From my perspective, he’s a very talented young man with a good heart. If he cleans up his life, I know he can make a living in the NFL, but not now with the Raiders.”
Mayock added that at the time, we thought it was an acceptable risk to draft Arnette after doing more homework on Arnette than anybody.
“We have done in the years I’ve been here, and obviously, we missed, and that is 100 per cent on me,’’ he explained.
The Raiders, meanwhile, announced the signing of free agent and three-time Pro Bowler DeSean Jackson. Veteran wide receiver Jackson had been waived by the Los Angeles Rams.Â
