Rain of goals as 10-man Chelsea, Liverpool record dramatic wins

Chelsea returned to winning ways on Sunday after the Blues defeated Brighton 3-2 at Stamford Bridge despite having to play half of the game with 10 after Conor Gallagher was sent off after a second yellow card in the cusp of the first half.
It was a win Mauricio Pochettino’s side needed to regain confidence following the 4-1 demolition at the hands of Newcastle United last week, a game which the Blues were forced to finish with 10 players after Reece James was shown a red card.
In today’s game, Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez opened his Premier League scoring account for Chelsea following his big money move from Benfica last year. In the 17th minute, the World Cup winner headed home Benoit Badiashile’s assist to give Chelsea the lead.
Barely four minutes later, Levi Colwill doubled the lead for Chelsea, also from a header courtesy of an assist from Nicolas Jackson. Colwill spent last season on loan at Brighton thus the England international refused to jubilate.
In the 43rd minute, Brighton pulled one back through Facundo Buonanotte’s curler from the right side of the area. Chelsea were down to 10 men two minutes later, an incident which was expected to change the outcome of the match.
Surprisingly, Chelsea extended the lead in the 65th minute from a penalty which was awarded for the Blues after Liverpool legend James Milner fouled Mykhaylo Mudryk who was almost through on goal.
Fernandez calmly converted the penalty to score his brace in the game.
Towards the end of the game, Brighton put pressure on the hosts in an attempt to change the course of the game. They managed to pull one back in stoppage time through Joao Pedro but Chelsea were able to survive a late scare to grab all three points.
Meanwhile at Anfield, Liverpool scored thrice late on to secure a 4-3 win over Fulham in a dramatic game, as the Reds moved to second place on the league table with 31 points just two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Liverpool grabbed the lead in the 20th minute after Bernd Leno conceded an own goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick from yards out that rattled the crossbar into the back of the Fulham goalkeeper.
Fulham responded four minutes later through one of Liverpool’s academy graduates Harry Wilson who slotted Antonee Robinson’s pass in between the legs of Caoimhin Kelleher to equalise for the visitors.
The Reds retook the lead in the 38th minute courtesy of a volley by Alexis Mac Allister, who fired the ball into the top right corner of the net but soon after, Fulham equalised again thanks to Tete.
It was relatively quiet after the halftime break until the 80th minute when Bobby Reid headed home Tom Cairney’s cross to put Fulham ahead for the first time in the entertaining game.
However, Liverpool would go on to score twice in 87th and 88th minutes from substitute Wataru Endo’s curler from yards out and Alexander-Arnold’s shot to win the game in the most dramatic fashion.
