Receptionist arraigned for allegedly stealing lodger’s $380,000

The police have arraigned a 35-year-old receptionist, Adesanya Adure, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing $380,000.
The prosecuting counsel, Samuel Emmanuel said that the complainant, Ohakwe Ebere, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on September 2.
Mr Emmanuel alleged that the defendant, a receptionist at Mountain of Fire hostel, changed the bed space of the complainant who lodged at the said facility on September 1 without her consent.
He further alleged that the defendant stole the said money which the complainant kept under the bed.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of section 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Farida Ibrahim, granted the defendant N300,000 bail with one reliable surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ms Ibrahim ordered that the surety must depose an affidavit of means of livelihood and address verified by the court’s registrar.
She adjourned the matter until October 2 for trial.
