Red Cross takes cholera sensitisation to Kaduna schools, communities

The Nigerian Red Cross Society in Kaduna has embarked on a sensitisation campaign to educate students and residents on cholera prevention and control.
Health officer Patience Sunday said the sensitisation was in response to the recent cholera outbreak in parts of Kaduna.
Ms Sunday said the sensitisation was targeted to schools and communities in Kaduna North, South, and Chikun LGAs. She said it was also aimed at raising awareness about the causes, symptoms, and prevention of cholera.
Ms Sunday said, “The cholera outbreak requires immediate attention, and we’re committed to supporting the state’s efforts to contain it. By educating our communities, especially vulnerable groups like school children and food vendors, we can prevent the spread of this deadly disease.”
Umma Haruna, the principal of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Tudun Nupawa, commended the Nigeria Red Cross Society for the initiative.
She said, “We appreciate the Nigerian Red Cross Society for selecting our school for this vital sensitization program. Our students and staff have gained valuable knowledge on cholera prevention, and we’ll ensure this information is disseminated to our community.”
The team conducted interactive sessions with the students, teachers and community members, emphasisng the importance of proper hygiene, safe water handling, and sanitation practices.
Food vendors in the targeted schools were also engaged, receiving guidance on maintaining clean and hygienic environments to prevent the spread of cholera.
