The Nigeria Red Cross has urged stakeholders to train employees in both public and private organisations on how to handle emergencies.

Bashir Umar, the officer in charge of training at the Red Cross, said this on Saturday in Abuja, at the maiden edition of Workplace Health and Wellness Fair.

Organised by the UDH Life Coaching in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Culture, the fair harped on training employees to administer first aid.

Mr Umar said offices must provide for first aid, stating that “when you train your employee on emergency management, it will help to reduce disasters.”

“The training we are talking about is learning and knowing what to do during emergencies, people tend to assist during emergency, but the question is, do they really know what to do?

“Our intention is to help but this turned out to be harmful sometimes, and this tends to harm the casualties.

“Accident does not give notice when it will happen, it doesn’t select the people it will happen to. We must learn to have the knowledge of what to do during emergencies, this could be a lifesaver for some people,” Mr Umar said.
