Releasing withheld Rivers’ allocation to military administrator will be in order: AGF

The Federal Government on Wednesday said it will be in order to release Rivers State monthly allocations to the newly inaugurated sole administration, Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), stating it is an ‘extraordinary’ decision after the state’s fund was withheld by the current administration for several months on court orders.
“And to me, it will be in order for the release of that fund because the event of the extraordinary situation has brought them out of the normal situation of things,” Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, made the disclosure while briefing State House correspondents at the presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr Ibas was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to be in charge of Rivers State for six months following declaration of a state of emergency and immediate suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials in the state including House of Assembly members.
The appointment conferred Mr Ibas the authority to dictate every aspect of the state’s affairs including expenditure of federal allocations without any oversight institution as the House of Assembly, which is supposed to approve any expenditure as enshrined in the constitution, has been dissolved by Mr Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the ratification of Mr Tinubu’s emergency rule declaration is still awaiting the National Assembly approval as both the Senate and House of Representatives concluded legislative activities on Wednesday without deliberating on the proclamation sent to the parliament by Mr Tinubu.
