Located in Germany, Euro 2024 also had a very good impact on the host country’s economy. It is estimated that the cities hosting matches generated a whopping 7,4 billion euros in revenue. This sum includes match ticket prices along with ads, sponsorship, and other costs related to the event.

Statistically speaking, Euro 2024 wasn’t the biggest goal frenzy by any means. Six players tied for the scoring lead with three goals apiece: Cody Gabkpo of the Netherlands, Harry Kane of England, George Mikautzae of Georgia, Jamal Musiala of Germany, Dani Olmo of Spain, and Ivan Schranz from Slovakia.

The biggest disappointment for punters and bookmakers alike was surely the timid performance of Kylian Mbappé of France, who scored only once during the competition. His broken nose justified his poor performance, but many were still upset to see him struggle.

Spanish midfielder Rodrigo “Rodri” Hernández Cascante was named the Player of the Tournament for his dazzling play in leading Spain to the title. He is considered a driving force of his team, famous for good strategic choices that led the Spaniards to kiss the Cup in the end. We were also impressed by his teammate, 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who won the Young Player of the Tournament award.

Best Matches

With a grand total of 51 matches during the Euro, there were plenty of great matches for fans to enjoy, starting with a grandiose Germany-Scotland match that demonstrated the firepower of the hosting country, which won 5-1.

We must also admit we were quite impressed with Georgia’s performance in upsetting Portugal, 2-0, to advance into the quarterfinals. The team amazed fans from all over with its quirks and smooth tactics. By making it to the quarters, where they fell to Spain, 4-1, Georgia proved that football is in their DNA.

Our favourite match was the semi-final between England and the Netherlands. It was a tight match throughout after two early goals kept things tied 1-1. But because we all know that things aren’t over until the fat lady sings, we were glued to the game and dazzled by England’s Ollie Watkins, who sent England on by scoring at the very last moments.

Looking Ahead to 2028

Overall, Euro 2024 was a resounding success, and we can certainly hope that the next tournament — co-hosted by England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales in June and July of 2028 — will give us some more beautiful football moments to look forward to.
