The House of Representatives,  at plenary on Tuesday, adopted 26 reports on public petitions alleging unlawful dismissal, breach of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), among others.

The adoption followed the presentation of the reports by the Chairman, House Committee on Public Petition, Rep. Laori Kwamoti (PDP-Adamawa) in Abuja.

Presenting the reports, Mr Kwamoti said the petitions were referred to the committee by the House for investigation and recommendations.

Among the adopted reports is a petition by 530 disengaged staff members of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA).

The petition was for alleged refusal to implement the approved payment of full and miscellaneous benefits, the payment of 15 years’ pension arrears, and the enrolment of eligible members into the defined pension scheme.

The House also adopted a report on a petition by Mrs Nwosu Chinonyerem against the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for alleged unlawful dismissal.

A report on a petition by L/CPL Ordu Odiereke against the Nigerian Army for unlawful dismissal from service and a petition by Lady Grace Ayoo against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for alleged career stagnation were adopted.

A report on a petition by Funmi Adeogun & Co., on behalf of Olatone Abdulsalam Ventures Limited, against the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and seven others, for Illegal ejection and destruction of property, was adopted.

Also, a report on a petition by Kennedy C. Amos and Associates against Airtel Networks Limited for an alleged fraudulent transaction involving the land of Mrs Juliana Nwikanne of Bianu Town, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers, was adopted.

The House also adopted a report on a petition by Sure-Path Solicitors against DSP Uche Okeke (D.C.O Unity Police Division, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu State) and Inspector Romanus Ugwuanyi (IPO) for the alleged torture and murder of Mr Kingsley Agwuna, popularly known as Temple, who died on September 8, 2024

Also, a report on a petition by Inspector Danladi Kwalpung against the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) for non-compliance with the court order reinstating him to service was adopted by the House.

A report on a petition by Wisdom and Grace on behalf of Mr Anthony Onyeabor against Aso Savings and Loans PLC, on alleged illegal, unjustified, and fraudulent concession of House No. SDB. 02, Sungold Estate, Galadimawa, FCT Abuja, to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, as also adopted.

Also, a report on a petition by Human Rights Radio and Television (Brekete Family), on behalf of eight senior staff of Biwater Nigeria Limited, against the management of Biwater Nigeria Limited for alleged failure to pay staff pensions and redundancy allowances, was adopted.

A report on a petition by Nsisan-Obari Royal Palace, Alesa Council of Chiefs, against Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited for alleged violation of PIA 2022 was adopted by the House.

Also, a report on a petition by City-Point Global Properties and Investment Limited against the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, alleging non-release and disbursement of a ₦479.2 million loan for the development of 160 Housing Units along Bende Road, Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia, was adopted.

A report on a petition by Advanced Coating Technology Limited against Precise Construction and Engineering Projects Limited, seeking outstanding payment for mechanical construction services rendered on the Oml-13 EPF Project, Iko, Akwa-Ibom, was adopted.

A petition by Mr Bolaji Yunus, Chief Executive Officer of Bolaful Solution Ventures, against Access Bank PLC, whose signage fell while he was on official duty, and the bank allegedly failed to treat him, was adopted, among others.

In his ruling, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session, said that the House, through the committee on compliance, would ensure implementation of all adopted recommendations.
