Residence Permit: Spain to grant legal status to undocumented Nigerian migrants, others
Spanish authorities have announced a plan to grant legal status to immigrants, a development that would allow them to obtain a temporary one-year residence permit.
This move was announced by Spain’s immigration minister, Elma Saiz, at a press conference on Tuesday.
“Today is a historic day for our country,” Ms Saiz said. “We are strengthening a migration model based on human rights, integration, coexistence, and compatibility with economic growth and social cohesion.”
The offer is open only to foreign nationals who have been in Spain for the past five months before December 31, 2025 and have no criminal records.
The regularisation process for immigrants will commence in April and will remain open till June. The process would see immigrants obtain a one-year residence permit, which could be extended.
About half a million illegal immigrants are likely to benefit from the programme.
