Rights group, regulators seek Meta glasses ban

A Germany-based digital rights non-governmental organisation, HateAid, has called for a ban on Meta glasses.
The organisation called for the ban following complaints at a police station in Potsdam by young women, who alleged that male strangers secretly filmed them at a public swimming pool.
“This technology is fueling digital violence, as perpetrators now need virtually no technical know-how,” HateAid said.
Reacting, Thomas Fuchs, the data protection commissioner for the German state of Hamburg, said he believed an outright ban on smart glasses was possible.
Mr Fuchs stated that checks by his office found the LED indicator, intended to alert nearby people when the device is recording, was too faint to be visible in normal daylight.
He disclosed that he is engaging with colleagues in Ireland, where Meta has its European headquarters, to develop an EU-wide policy on the ethical use of the technology.
