Reigning African champions, the Super Falcons, returned to winning ways on Tuesday after Nigeria defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 3-1 in the second leg of a two-match tour in Yaounde.

Following a slim 1-0 defeat in the first leg on Saturday, the Falcons gained redemption with the victory on Tuesday to build the team’s momentum ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to start on March 17.

Cameroon struck first in the seventh minute of the encounter, but Chiwendu Ihezuo equalised for Nigeria in the 32nd minute after she headed home a perfectly placed cross from Rinsola Babajide.

Babajide got on the scoresheet minutes before the halftime break, as she fired home a loose ball from close range to put Nigeria in front for the first time in the match.

Michelle Alozie sealed the victory for the Falcons four minutes past the hour mark when she leapt high to head home Rasheedat Ajibade’s cross.

Meanwhile, the Falcons will shift their focus to the WAFCON, where they have been drawn into Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi.

The tournament also serves as Africa’s qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the semifinalists securing automatic spots in the competition in Brazil.
