Rivers LG boss commits to good governance, inaugurates principal officials

Solomon Abuba, newly sworn-in chairman of Ahoada East LGA in Rivers, has pledged to discharge the responsibilities of his office with sincerity, humility, and dedication.
Mr Abuba made the pledge at the council’s headquarters, Ahoada, while swearing in his deputy, Florence Odukwu.
The chairman also inaugurated the legislative assembly with the 13 councillors who emerged victorious in the recent local government council elections, participating in the election of their floor functionaries.
Mr Abuba said that good governance is imperative if the country must witness development, peace, and security at the grassroots, saying, “I will not take for granted the confidence reposed in him during the election.’’
He also charged the councillors to work harmoniously with the executive arm in advancing the collective interest of the people.
Mr Abuba later announced the appointment of key officials to various positions at the council.
They include Elijah Uwhuetu, the council secretary, Godstime Egor, chief of staff, and Esor Opuwari, the chief security officer. Others include Precious Dogini, Chief Protocol Officer; Moses Hamilton, chief press secretary; and Eze Ake, the legal adviser to the council.
On its part, the Ahoada Legislative Assembly elected Marvin Jonah as the leader, Uzoma Miller as deputy leader, and Abali Chigozie as chief whip.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Jonah thanked his colleagues for the opportunity to serve and promised to ensure equal opportunities for members, while also prioritising their welfare.
