Rivers Senatorial By-election: PDP candidate says voter turnout impressive

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Rivers South-East senatorial by-election, Olaka Nwogu, has described the voter turnout as impressive.
Mr Nwogu stated this while speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Alesa in the Eleme Local Government Area on Saturday.
He described the voter turnout as a clear indication of the people’s support for and acceptance of the process.
Mr Nwogu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be more cautious in relying on technology during the election.
He raised concerns over the effective functioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and urged INEC to avoid challenges that could disenfranchise voters.
“We hear that the BVAS machines are having some challenges. I urge INEC to avoid anything that will lead to disenfranchisement.
“INEC should be more cautious in relying on technology. It is important for our people to vote during the election,” he said.
It would be recalled that the by-election is to fill the vacuum created by the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi, the former senator representing Rivers South-East District.
