Russia sees no reason for United Nations peacekeepers to be sent to Ukraine, the Russian foreign ministry was quoted as saying.

The RIA news agency reported that Pyotr Ilyichev, the director of the ministry’s international organisations department, said there was no need for peacekeepers as Russia was in control.

A new round of talks between Russia and Ukraine will be held via video link on Monday.

Earlier, Ukraine’s presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych in a televised interview said more than 2,500 residents of the Black Sea port city of Mariupol had been killed since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

He said he was citing figures from the Mariupol city administration, and accused Russian forces of preventing humanitarian aid from reaching the encircled city on Sunday.
