Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged Russia and Ukraine to stop the war as Russia’s invasion enters its second month. 

Mr Erdogan made his comments on Tuesday morning while hosting peace negotiations in Istanbul. 

“The two parties have legitimate concerns, it’s possible to reach a solution acceptable to the international community,” Mr Erdogan said.

“It’s up to the two parties to put an end to this tragedy.” 

Mr Erdogan urged both delegations to end the military onslaught as talks kicked off at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul, adding that the “extension of the conflict is in no one’s interest.”

Turkey first hosted the warring delegations earlier this month in the city of Antalya. Both delegations arrived in Turkey on Monday after several rounds of virtual talks. 

At this time of filing this report, officials from both countries have hinted that they are not certain of an agreement.

On Monday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that “nothing is agreed upon unless everything is agreed upon.”

Mr Kuleba explained that Ukraine was hoping to first secure and solve the humanitarian crisis arising from the war and that the country’s officials were hoping to achieve a cease-fire.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said in a televised interview on Monday that the delegations “still don’t have a clear understanding on our main points.”
