Nnani Adaobi Merian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, who was injured in a Russian strike on Kharkiv on June 29, has died in a German hospital.

Kharkiv National Medical University announced Ms Merian’s death in a Facebook post on Sunday.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nnani Adaobi Marian, a graduate of the National Medical University, Kharkiv,” the university said, disclosing that Ms Merian “suffered serious injuries as a result of enemy shelling”.

“Doctors to the last fought for her life: first in Kharkiv, and later in Germany,” the NMU explained. “Everyone sympathised, helped and hoped for recovery, but unfortunately, despite all the efforts of the doctors, she could not be saved.”

Ms Merian, 23, joined Kharkiv National Medical University in 2020, and over the years of study, “she recommended herself as a capable, responsible and persistent student who honestly studied and demonstrated high academic results”, the university stated.
