A former Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko, has donated N10 million and 100 bundles of clothing materials to support orphans and other vulnerable persons ahead of the forthcoming Sallah celebration.

The donation, which was channelled through the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency (SOZEA), was received by the agency’s chairman, Lawal Maidoki, in Sokoto on Saturday.

Mr Wamakko (APC–Sokoto North) said the gesture was aimed at supporting about 10,000 vulnerable individuals, particularly orphans, to enable them to celebrate the Sallah festival with joy and dignity.

According to him, the initiative forms part of efforts to complement the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of the less privileged, especially during the Ramadan and Sallah seasons.

“This is part of our continued commitment to supporting the less privileged in the society, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

“The donation is meant to assist vulnerable members of society, especially orphans, so that they too can celebrate Salah in a happy and joyful mood, expecting reward from Almighty Allah,” Mr Wamakko said.

Receiving the items, Mr Maidoki expressed appreciation to the senator for the gesture and prayed for Allah’s abundant reward.

“The agency particularly appreciates the lawmaker for his generosity and compassion towards the needy,” he said.

The chairman described Mr Wamakko as a renowned philanthropist and compassionate leader whose support for vulnerable groups in Sokoto State and beyond has been consistent.

Mr Maidoki also assured that the items and cash would be judiciously distributed to the intended beneficiaries.

The Murshid (a spiritual leader or guide of the agency) later offered special prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings and continued guidance for the donor, as well as the successful distribution of the items to deserving beneficiaries.
