Sanwo-Olu’s govt arrests eight children for begging in Lagos

Mr Wahab said those arrested would be transferred to appropriate government facilities in line with enabling laws.

On Monday, officials of the Lagos State Environmental Task Force arrested 17 people for alleged street begging in some parts of the metropolis to curb public nuisance. Among those arrested were eight minors.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement on X, said, “The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce on Monday, 16th of December, 2024, monitored and carried out a special purpose operation against persons constituting public nuisance across the metropolis.

“17 persons including 8 minors, involved in the unlawful act of street begging in the hold-ups, were apprehended during the operation.”

The commissioner said the officials patrolled major routes, including Alfred Rewane, Osborne, Alexandra, Burdillon in Ikoyi and Lekki-Ajah express corridor, in Victoria Island, where destitute and miscreants were arrested and warded off.

Mr Wahab said those arrested would be transferred to appropriate government facilities in line with enabling laws.
