SDP presidential candidate promises better representation of women if elected

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has pledged to ensure a women-inclusive government if elected in 2023.
Mr Adebayo made the pledge while speaking at a three-day conference with presidential candidates, organised by the Nigerian Women 4 Good Governance on Saturday in Abuja.
At the conference, with the theme, “Good Governance for Better Nigeria”, Mr Adebayo said Nigeria’s problems would be solved if families and women were empowered.
He said that adequate representation of women in government would not only make it work but also save Nigeria from many troubles.
“A government should be like a housewife. If you want to have a government that will work in Nigeria, you have to fashion the government like a housewife.
“The government will wake up and think of how people will eat and go to school,” he said.
Mr Adebayo pledged that his government would “empower families” and that women empowerment would have a significant impact on the country.
“In Nigerian society, the women carry the verdict and the women run the show but in the Nigerian government, the men take everything. This has to change,” Mr Adebayo said.
Emphasising on women being better managers and caregivers, he added that, “If we can listen to women, we will know the problem of Nigeria and solve them.”
