The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Women Parliament has welcomed the publication of Adewole Adebayo’s name by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s presidential candidate.

The national speaker of the parliament, Sa’adatu Abdullahi, said the development reinforced the party’s readiness to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative in the forthcoming election.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Ms Abdullahi said the recognition was a significant milestone that reflected the commitment of the party’s national working committee (NWC) and strengthened confidence in its leadership and democratic process.

She said the official publication of the SDP presidential ticket, comprising Mr Adebayo and his running mate, Usman Bugaje, demonstrated the party’s preparedness to present Nigerians with leadership founded on good governance, social justice, economic prosperity and the rule of law.

According to her, the party remained convinced that Adebayo possessed the character, competence and vision required to address national challenges and provide purposeful leadership.

She commended INEC for conducting the nomination process in line with fairness, transparency and due process.

Ms Abdullahi said the growing acceptance of the SDP across the country reflected Nigerians’ desire for a credible political alternative committed to integrity, inclusiveness and people-centred governance.

She urged women, youths, party members and supporters to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.

The SDP Women Parliament speaker also encouraged supporters to promote issue-based campaigns and communicate the party’s vision for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.

She appealed to Nigerians to pray for Adebayo, seeking wisdom, strength, good health and guidance for him as he prepares for the contest.

Ms Abdullahi reaffirmed the commitment of the SDP Women Parliament to mobilising women across the country in support of the party’s programmes and presidential ticket.
