Security guard arraigned for stealing N219,000

On Friday, the police in Lagos arrested a 25-year-old man, Abiodun Adegoke, before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for stealing his employer’s N219,000.
The defendant, a security guard who resides at 30 Adaramola St., Awuse Estate, Opebi Ikeja, is being tried for stealing.
The prosecutor, Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offence was committed on January 22, 2024, at Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos.
Mr Odugbo said the complainant, Juliet Onyi, saw a debit alert of N219,000 from her bank, and when she went to the bank, it was discovered that a transfer had been made to the defendant’s account.
The prosecutor said the defendant stole the complainant’s phone to make the transfer and thereafter returned the phone.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, M.O. Popoola, granted the defendant bail of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mr Popoola adjourned the case until March 26 for mention.
