Security guard bags three years’ imprisonment for stealing employer’s N6 million

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s court in Ibadan on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old security guard to a term of three years at the correctional centre for stealing his employer’s N6.1 million.
The convict, Oladipo Titilope, was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and causing malicious damage.
He pleaded guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, the magistrate, M. Mudashiru, found him guilty as charged and consequently convicted him.
The court sentenced him to a term of three years’ imprisonment at the Agodi Correctional facility, adding that it will serve as a deterrence to others.
The court also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N4.7 million as restitution to the complainant after serving his term of imprisonment.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sikiru Ibrahim had said that the convict committed the offence on February 6, at about 11:00 a.m.
He was said to have conspired with others at large to maliciously damage an iron safe valued at N100,000 and then stole the sum of N6.1 million, the property of one Adewunmi Adejobi, his employer.
Mr Ibrahim said that the convict ran away from Ibadan after committing the offence but was later arrested at his village in Osun State.
He said that the sum of N450,000 cash and two phones valued at N910,000 was recovered from the convict.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.
