A security guard, Bello Mohammed, was arraigned at the Grade I Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for stealing ceramic plates and spoons.

The utensils belong to his employer.

The police charged Mr Mohammed, a Guzape resident in Asokoro, with mischief and theft.

The prosecution counsel Ade Adeyanju told the court that the complainant employed the defendant as a security guard in a restaurant.

He said the defendant also stole rice, seasoning, oil, steel, and iron worth N2 million, adding that Mr Mohammed confessed to the crime during a police investigation.

Mr Adeyanju explained that the matter was reported at Asokoro police station by the complainant, Victor Ajibeshie.

The offence, he said, contravened sections 327 and 289 of the Penal Code. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to N2 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Maiwada stated that the sureties must provide means of identification, deposit utility bill, affidavit, and statement of account.

He adjourned the case until February 3 for mention.
