Senate confirms Lamido Yuguda as AMCON board chairman

The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Lamido Yuguda as chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Mr Yuguda’s confirmation followed presentation and adoption of the report of the Senate committee on banking, insurance and other financial institutions.
Presenting the report, chairman of the committee, Adetokunbo Abiru (APC -Lagos), said the nominee had previously undergone screening by the committee on two occasions.
According to him, Mr Yuguda was earlier screened for appointment as a member of the monetary policy committee (MPC) and later as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He said the committee was satisfied with the nominee’s qualifications and recommended his confirmation as chairman of AMCON.
The Senate, thereafter, via a voice vote, unanimously approved the nomination.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, in his remarks, commended the committee for conducting a thorough screening.
He also congratulated the confirmed nominee, expressing confidence that he would bring value to AMCON and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.
Mr Akpabio also commended the lawmakers for their contributions and cooperation during the confirmation process.
The Senate at plenary also approved three House of Representatives bills for concurrence.
The bills are: High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Act Amendment Bill 2026; National Inland Waterways Authority Act Repeal and Enactment Bill, 2026; and the Tobacco Control Act 20215 Amendment Bill 2026.
