Senate: Governor Ben Ayade crashes to PDP in Cross River

Governor Ben Ayade lost his bid to become the senator for Cross River North in the parliamentary elections conducted last Saturday.
Mr Ayade, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was shellacked at the polls by Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 76,145 votes. Mr Ayade scored 56,595 votes,
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s returning officer, Emmanuel Emanghe, made the results public at 3:05 a.m.
The incumbent senator representing Cross River North, Mr Agom-Jarigbe, was first elected to the Senate in a September 2021 by-election to succeed the late legislator Rose Okoh.
Before then, he had served as a member of the House of Representatives.
