Senator congratulates Super Falcons on 10th WAFCON win

Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Ned Nwoko has congratulated the Super Falcons on their 3-2 win over the Morocco team to clinch their 10th record-extending WAFCON title.
Mr Nwoko (APC-Delta) and Chancellor, Sports University of Nigeria in his congratulatory message on Sunday said that the win exemplified the never-say-die spirit of Nigerians.
He stated, “I warmly congratulate the Super Falcons on their breathtaking comeback victory against Morocco to secure a record-breaking 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. Coming from two goals down to secure a dramatic 3-2 win exemplifies not just the strength and resilience of Nigerian women, but also the never-say-die spirit that defines our national identity. You have once again shown the world what it means to wear the green and white with pride. Beyond this win, I continue to emphasise that Nigeria has a vibrant population of young sports enthusiasts, and it is time we fully leverage that potential. We must abandon the practice of last-minute preparations and instead institutionalise year-round training and development for all sporting disciplines.’’
The lawmaker who represents Delta North Senatorial District stressed that it was no longer enough to solely rely on talents to excel at international competitions.
Mr Nwoko added, “We must consistently invest in our athletes and provide them with the resources and support they need to compete and excel at the global stage. As vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports Development and Chancellor of the Sports University of Nigeria (SUN), I remain committed to promoting holistic sports growth in Nigeria. All sports matter; and SUN remains open and ready to train the next generation of elite athletes and sports professionals. Once again, congratulations to our trailblazing Super Falcons. You have done the nation proud.’’
