Senator Ningi suspended for three months over budget padding scandal

On Tuesday, the Senate suspended Abdul Ningi over allegations that the 2024 budget was padded with N3.7 trillion.
Mr Ningi was suspended for three months after deliberation on the house floor that turned rowdy.
Jimoh Ibrahim moved the motion to suspend Mr Ningi for 12 months for breaching the peace of the National Assembly and misinforming the public.
Other senators recommended six or three months’ suspension.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who described Mr Ningi’s allegations as grievous, announced Mr Ningi’s suspension after a voice vote supporting a three-month suspension for the senator.
On Monday, Mr Ningi, a Peoples Democratic Party member and leader of the Northern Senators Caucus, alleged that the 2024 Budget was padded with an additional N3.7 trillion not traceable to any budget.
