Serie A: Ademola Lookman scores twice as Atalanta thrash Napoli 3-0 to end unbeaten streak

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman scored a first-half brace as Atalanta thrashed league leaders Napoli 3-0 in their Serie A tie at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday.
Coming into the matchday 11 tie, Napoli had not lost any of their previous 10 league matches except the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Hellas Verona in their opening game of the season.
Since the defeat, Napoli had gone on to win eight matches and drew one while only conceding two goals as they reign atop the Serie A standings.
However, they conceded as early as 10 ten into the game against Atalanta with Lookman, who finished 14th at the 2024 Ballon d’Or awards, firing a close-range flicked ball from Charles De Ketalaere into the net.
In the 31st minute, Atalanta went 2-0 up as the Nigerian international scored again but now beating Alex Meret from yards out to take his season’s goal contribution tally to 11 with six goals and five assists.
Substitute Mateo Retegui scored in added time as he connected well with a cross from Raoul Bellanova, placing the ball into the bottom-right corner to extend his goal tally to 11 this season.
Napoli remained top of the table with 25 points, while Atalanta temporarily moved to second place with 22 points. A draw or defeat for Inter against Venezia later today will see Atalanta retain the position until next, at least, matchday.
