Serie A: Roma sack De Rossi, shop for replacement

In a surprising move, AS Roma have terminated the contract of club legend Daniele De Rossi. The decision comes after a disappointing start to the Serie A season, leaving the club near the relegation zone.
De Rossi, who was appointed as Roma’s manager in January following the dismissal of José Mourinho, had a brief tenure of just eight months. The club’s statement emphasized the need to “get back on the desired path as soon as possible.”
The former Italian international, a World Cup winner in 2006, had a storied career with Roma, playing for the club for over 18 years. However, his managerial experience was limited, with previous stints at SPAL and the youth team of Roma.
Despite a strong start to his tenure, including a good run in the Europa League last season, Roma’s start-of-season form has been underwhelming. The club’s poor performance in the Serie A, especially the missed opportunity to secure a first win of the season against Genoa on Sunday, led to the decision to part ways with De Rossi.
As Roma searches for a new manager, with many touting former Torino boss Ivan Juric and former Milan and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri as potential replacements, fans are left to reflect on De Rossi’s legacy as both a player and a coach. While his time as manager was short-lived, his contributions to the club as a player will undoubtedly be remembered for years.
