Serie A Title Race 2024-25: Can Atalanta, Napoli, or Inter Claim the Scudetto?

Fallen Leader from Bergamo
Atalanta, under the leadership of Gian Piero Gasperini, has demonstrated phenomenal football, leading the standings for a long time with 41 points. The Bergamaschi spent €55 million this summer to strengthen the squad, with key striker Mateo Retegui being the standout acquisition.
The team’s tactical flexibility and high pressing make Atalanta a formidable opponent for any Serie A club. By the way, if you are a Serie A fan, find more on Ratingbet about the tournament.
Gasperini’s system, based on intense pressing and fast attacks, has been brought to perfection. The team demonstrates impressive performance, having already scored 43 goals. The midfield, particularly effective with Ederson and Charles De Ketelaere, controls the centre of the field and creates numerous chances for the forwards.
The main revelation of the season has been Atalanta’s defence, which has conceded only 20 goals. Giorgio Scalvini and Berrat Djimsiti have formed a reliable defensive tandem, while Juan Musso is in the best form of his career. However, the lack of experience in the championship race could be a significant challenge in the second half of the season.
The Former Champions in the Title Race
Napoli are going through a challenging period after the departure of Luciano Spalletti. The new coach, Antonio Conte, is trying to preserve the championship squad, relying on the star attacking duo. Napoli boasts the most expensive squad among the leaders:
- Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – 85 million euros;
- Stanislav Lobotka – 28 million euros;
- Frank Anguissa – 27 million euros;
- Alessandro Buongiorno – 45 million euros.
Fortunately for Napoli, their recent 3-0 victory against Fiorentina propelled them to the top of the standings with 44 points, surpassing Atalanta. Taking advantage of the absence of their main rivals, who were in Saudi Arabia for the Italian Super Cup, Antonio Conte’s team secured a spectacular win. David Neres, Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay contributed to the dominant performance against Fiorentina, who struggled with significant defensive issues.
Ambitious Inter
Inter Milan, under Simone Inzaghi, is playing the most productive football in the league, having already scored 45 goals. The summer transfer campaign significantly bolstered the squad.
Inter’s midfield looks the most balanced in the league. Hakan Çalhanoğlu orchestrates attacks superbly, while Nicolò Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan perfectly balance defence and attack. The squad’s depth is especially impressive, with substitutions maintaining the same level of quality as the starters.
The defensive line also deserves praise. The Bastoni-Pavard-Dumfries trio operates as a single mechanism, and Yann Sommer has confidently filled the void left by André Onana’s departure. The team has conceded only 15 goals — boasting the second-best defensive record in the league.
Who Is Likely to Win the Title Race?
The battle for the Scudetto remains one of the most unpredictable in recent years. While Napoli is currently on top of the standings, Atalanta and Inter have games in hand that could help them overcome Napoli’s dominance. Inter Milan appears to be the favourite due to the squad’s depth and its results stability.
Atalanta could return to contention, provided that the team successfully adapts to the requirements of the demanding coach. In any case, the fans can expect an exciting end to the season with an unpredictable outcome.
