The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission has verified seven political parties to participate in the upcoming January 18 local government council elections.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Akure.

It said the political parties were confirmed during the verification exercise for candidates contesting for the positions of chairman and vice-chairman held at the commission’s headquarters on Monday in Akure.

The political parties set to participate include the Action Alliance, All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, and Action People’s Party. Others are the New Nigeria People’s Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party.

The statement added that the election would be conducted across the 18 local government areas.

According to the statement, all the political parties’ chairmanship and vice-chairmanship candidates underwent verification on Monday.

“This critical process, conducted at the commission’s headquarters, was aimed at ensuring that all candidates meet the eligibility requirements stipulated in the electoral guidelines,” it said.

It explained further that the same exercise for councilorship candidates would take place on Tuesday at the various local government area offices of the commission.

It said the electoral officers will be supervised by ODIEC commissioners in those offices.
