Seventeen-year-old labourer jailed for stealing phones

On Wednesday, a magistrates’ court in Jos sentenced a 17-year-old labourer, Abubakar Adam, to nine months in the correctional centre for stealing phones.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Mr Adam after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The convict was, however, given an option of a N10,000 fine and ordered to pay compensation of N100,000 to the complainant.
The judge said the punishment would deter those wanting to indulge in such acts.
Prosecution counsel Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on February 20 at the ‘C’ Division Police Station by Habizu Hassan, the complainant.
The prosecutor said the convict trespassed into the complainant’s house, stole two phones valued at N115,000, and sold them to an individual, Abdullahi Gambo, at N13,000.
