Several injured as 18-seater bus rams into market in Kwara

Several people were injured after an 18-seater bus rammed into a crowded market in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Saturday.
Witnesses said the commercial Hiace bus suffered a sudden brake failure and crashed into a barricade, eventually ramming into a shop within the market.
The incident caused widespread panic among commuters and traders, resulting into multiple injuries.
Two people, who spoke to Peoples Gazette, said no fatalities were recorded.
“We heard a voice pf the driver from a long range and everyone started to run. The barricade at the market saved several people today,” Ibukun Joseph, said.
Another person, Ahmad Kazeem, commended the local traffic authorities for their quick response.
“I think the driver did well to have shouted when the break failed. The incident could have been fatal. Beyond this, the local authorities, including the operatives of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) should be commended for their rapid response,” he stated.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Traffic officers had also restored the flow of traffic at the area.
