Several soldiers feared dead as ISWAP ambushes army convoy in Borno

A yet-to-be ascertained number of soldiers has been feared killed following deadly attacks by the members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Sabon Gari, Damboa local government area of Borno State.
According to report by a news outlet, HumAngle, the attacks occurred on Friday as the terrorists opened fire on a mixed convoy of soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The report said the convoy was moving in the direction of Bongry when it was intercepted by the terrorists, leading to the disappearance of a yet-to-be-identified brigade commander.
The report, however, said the commander returned on foot after missing for many hours in what looked like an escape from the attackers.
Efforts to reach the army spokesperson, Onyinyechi Anele, on her mobile were unsuccessful as of the time this story was filed.
The attacks came amid President Donald Trump redesignation of Nigeria as a country of particular concern and threatened troop deployment in the country over alleged Christian genocide.
However, the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, recently described the security situation especially in the North-East as satisfactory and assured Nigerians of improved security across the country.
