Sevilla FC have confirmed the departure of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old striker joined Sevilla last summer on a free transfer from Leicester City and was under contract until June 2026. His spell in La Liga never really took off, with limited minutes and a struggle to be on form.

Iheanacho made 11 appearances for the club, scoring three goals in all competitions but failing to find the net in La Liga across nine league appearances.

In the January transfer window, he joined English Championship side Middlesbrough on loan, playing 15 matches where he scored once and registered two assists.

“An agreement has been reached with Kelechi Iheanacho to rescind his contract. We thank him for his efforts and wish him the best in his future,” said Sevilla in an announcement.

This move reduces the club’s wage burden, as he reportedly earns around €4 million per season. The mutual termination makes Iheanacho a free agent.

The Nigerian forward’s career began at Manchester City, where he broke into the senior team in 2015. He then made a move to Leicester City in 2017.

He spent over six seasons with the Foxes, scoring 35 goals in 173 appearances, winning both the FA Cup and the Community Shield, and was voted the club’s Player of the Season during their relegation campaign.

The attacker featured for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in over 50 appearances for the Eagles after making his debut in 2015, scoring crucial goals in World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations, including helping Nigeria reach the AFCON 2023 final.
