Sexagenarian, one other arraigned for allegedly giving false information in murder case
A sexagenarian, Titilayo Alagbado and Alex Olaiya, 40, on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly giving false information to pervert justice in a murder investigation.
Alagbado, 67, and Olaiya, both residents of Ajoda New Town, Ibadan, Egbeda Local Government Area, were arraigned on seven-count charge of conspiracy, destruction of evidence, giving false information, forgery, receiving money from proceeds of criminal activities and conspiracy .
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro alleged that Alagbado on August 19 conspired with others to pervert justice, destroy evidence and made false statements to the police.
Mr Adegbenro also alleged that Ms Alagbado destroyed evidence on her cell phone by deleting messages between her and her son, Folawiyo Alagbado, to prevent it from being used against the latter, accused of killing Tolulope Adejumo.
The prosecutor further told the court that the sexagenarian gave false information to the police that she last saw her son in 2025 and that he resides in the Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which she new to be false.
Equally, Mr Adegbenro alleged that Mr Olaiya between 2020 and August 2026 forged sworn affidavit of change of engine number of Toyota Camry from his name to another to prejudice investigation to the real owner of vehicle
The prosecutor alleged that defendant gave false information that he owned a Toyota Camry vehicles with Reg No: Abuja RBC 907 JS and Lagos LSR 267 HP, which he knew to be false.
Mr Adegbenro also accused Mr Olaiya of receiving through his Fidelity Bank Account No: 6170687880, UBA Bank Account No: 2032806713 and Wema Bank Account No: 0418860287 questionable large amounts of money without any legitimate evidence of income.
He said that investigations revealed that the monies in the bank accounts were for Folawiyo, which Mr Olaiya concealed.
Mr Adegbenro said the offence contravened Section 465 and punishable under Section 123, 126 (1), 125, 125A, 127, 467 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N1 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Sanusi ordered that two of the sureties must bear same surname with each of the defendants, while the two other sureties must have valid passports.
The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the matter until October 27, for hearing.
