The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, has reached an agreement to settle in the U.S. lawsuit where Virginia Giuffre accused him of sexually abusing her when she was a teenager.

The settlement was reached on Tuesday and included an undisclosed payment, according to filings in Manhattan federal court.

In the joint filing, lawyers for Ms Giuffre and Mr Andrew said their settlement in principle called for the duke to make a “substantial donation” to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights.

“Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks,” the document stated.

The parties expect to file to dismiss the case within the next 30 days, when Giuffre confirms receipt of the settlement, according to David Boies, an attorney for Ms Giuffre.

Prince Andrew had denied accusations that he forced Ms Giuffre into sexual relations when she was 17 years old. 

Ms Giuffre had said the British royal family member sexually abused her in London, New York, and Little St. James, Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

Her lawsuit included the now-famous photo of Prince Andrew with his arm around her waist, which she alleged was taken shortly before he abused her.

The lawsuit saw the British royal stripped of his military titles and royal charities, no longer to use the title ‘His Royal Highness’, and “not to undertake any public duties.” 

In 2019, Mr Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. In December, Ms Maxwell was convicted of sex trafficking and other counts in a trial.
